BERIKE and Mezike were born in an uninhabited garden. Sadly, by the time we found out they were there their mummy and 4 brothers had been killed...The two of them survived and came to the shelter. BERIKE's leg was broken, but it was healing very nicely and quickly. As they had never known human closeness before they are still afraid and wary of people. We don't recommend them to families with small children because they don't take kindly to children's idea of playing with them.
BERIKE was adopted on 3rd March 2014.
He was brought back to the shelter on 7th April 2017. (Reason: he's unmanageable)
We can't even begin to imagine what could have happened to him during the 3 years while he had a “home”. The how and the why of this tiny pup having turned into this troubled, fearful dog who doesn't let anyone close to him and who becomes aggressive and may bite out of fear. The fact is that BERI came back to us as a skin and bone, growling and antisocial dog.
Thanks to the patience and kindness of one of our volunteers BERI is beginning to accept people now, but there is still a lot to do for him to learn to trust.
UPDATE 10.06.2021
A huge breakthrough has occurred in BERIke's life! Two weeks ago we asked for the help of a dog trainer who struggled with him a bit, but he managed to put him on a lead and he had his very first walk. Since then he has been going out for a walk several times a day. He does not want to bite now when we attach the lead on the collar and does not want to bite when we unfasten it. He's a dominant dog who tries to hide his fear by this behaviour, but he has a string nervous system and he's a very smart, intelligent dog , he just needs time to let his walls down properly and fully. Naturally, there is still a long way to go for BERIke, but his rehabilitation is ongoing and we are doing our level best for him to be able to be member of a loving family one day where he will be loved and cared for the way every dog would deserve.
UPDATE 04.09.2021: BERI is a happy dog now, walks nicely and proudly wearing his harness now. He’s ready for adoption, but he can be shy of strangers.
His heartworm test result on 11th October 2021 came back negative.
BERI has moved into his new home on 27th October 2021. He was adopted. 10.11.2021
