He appeared in the fields in the vicinity of the shelter in the midst of winter. We weren't able to sweet-talk him into coming to us willingly for weeks, so in the end we had to trap him. He got used to his new situation quite easily. He found himself a free dog kennel where he could spend the nights and he didn't need to worry about going hungry again. But he has not turned into a lapdog.
He's a curious, cool dog and a law unto himself.
He's kind of a guard dog at the shelter. He makes new arrivals stop by his loud barking, so no one is allowed to enter the premises without his approval. If there is silence in the yard it means that GÁBOR is probably close by. He must know about everything that goes on.
GÁBOR is not cat-friendly. He's chasing the cats living in the vicinity of the shelter.
UPDATE 03.01.2021 GÁBOR-GÁBOR's function as a guard dog has ceased
His heartworm test result on 13th October 2020 came back negative. He has moved into an own kennel from where his carer takes him for regular walks every other day. He would still much rather run away when he spot the collar and lead, but once the collar is round his neck he walks quite nicely. As if he'd been doing this all his life. He's waiting for his dream owner who would not regard him as a guard dog but a proper member of the family and who may share his couch with him as well.
